(voice-over) "A quarter-century is a long
time. By the time we reached Bagby's store, my hand had turned black.
I was not awake when I lost the arm. The Marshal had stayed with
me, I was told, 'til I was out of danger. But he departed before
I came around. Once home, I wrote him with an invitation to come
by the next time he found himself near Yell County. And collect the
$50 I still owed him. I did not hear back from Marshal Cogburn. And
he did not appear. Then one day, I received a note from the Marshal,
with a flyer enclosed. He said he was travelin' with the Wild West
show. Getting older and fatter. Would I like to come visit him when
the show came to Memphis, and swap stories with an old trail mate?
He would understand if the journey were too long. Brief though his
note was, it was rife with mis-spellings....I had the body removed
to our plot and I had visited it over the years. No doubt people
talk about that. They say, 'Well, she hardly knew the man. Isn't
she a cranky old maid?' It is true, I have not married. I never had
time to fool with it. I heard nothing more of the Texas officer,
LaBoeuf. If he is yet alive, I would be pleased to hear from him.
I judge he would be in his seventies now. And nearer eighty than
seventy. I expect some of the starch has gone out of that cow-lick.
Time just gets away from us." |
|
"Yes. No doubt about it." |
|
(voice-over) "Most people live life on the path we set for them. Too afraid to explore any other. But once in a while, people like you come along who knock down all the obstacles we put in your way. People who realize free will is a gift you'll never know how to use until you fight for it. I think that's the Chairman's real plan that maybe one day, we won't write the plan. You will." |

You've created a whole new world. Goodwin, if I'm right, somewhere at the Source Code facility, you have a Captain Colter Stevens waiting to send on a mission. Promise me you'll help him. And when you do, do me a favor: tell him everything is gonna be okay." |
|
- "What are you doing? What are you doing?
It's over, Tommy. You better fight! It's over, Tommy. Come on. Tommy,
we don't have to do this! Come on. Why do you want to do this, Tommy?
Am I gonna have to watch you do this? Okay? You all right there?

"Final report of the vessel Prometheus. The ship and her entire crew are gone. If you're receiving this transmission, make no attempt to come to its point of origin. There is only death here now, and I'm leaving it behind. It is New Year's Day, the year of our Lord, 2094. My name is Elizabeth Shaw, the last survivor of the Prometheus. And I am still searching." |

(voice-over) "I remembered how we'd all come to Gatsby's and guessed at his corruption, while he stood before us concealing his incorruptible dream. The moon rose higher, and as I stood there brooding on the old unknown world, I thought of Gatsby's wonder when he first picked out the green light at the end of Daisy's dock. He had come such a long way, and his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it. But he did not know that it was already behind him. Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter. Tomorrow, we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. And one fine morning. So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." |

"He has given us a second chance. Be a father. Be a grandfather. Help us to do better this time. Help us start again. The Creator made Adam in His image, and placed the world in his care. That birthright was passed down to us. To my father, then to me, and to my sons, Shem, Japheth, and Ham. That birthright is now passed to you, our grandchildren. This will be your work, and your responsibility. So I say to you, be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth."
(voice-over) "What the hell is it about Christmas in Bailey Downs? Are we cursed or something? Why does this season of love and peace and goodwill keep ending in blood and death and horror? You keep the spirit in your hearts, you hear me, people. You hug your loved ones and you keep them close and you treat 'em every Christmas like it might be your last."
