Jurassic World (2015)
d. Colin Trevorrow, 124 minutes

Film Plot Summary

The opening prologue and overlaid title displayed the cracking of outer ostrich egg shells as the claws of two baby I-Rex dinosaurs emerged - one sibling displayed a red eye. They ominously hatched in the Hammond Creation Lab within Jurassic World.

Young Gray Mitchell (Ty Simpkins) was looking at two different Viewmaster slides - (1) dinosaurs battling each other (an Allosaurus vs. a Triceratops), and (2) two Ray Harryhausen-animated Ceratosaurs from Irwin Allen's documentary The Animal World (1956). His poster-decorated bedroom was stocked with movie and dinosaur toys and other models. He was interrupted by his mother, Karen Mitchell (Judy Greer) to get himself ready. Gray and his older, girl-obsessed teenaged sibling Zach Mitchell (Nick Robinson) were about to be transported from their snowy, two-story surburban Wisconsin home to the Dane County airport by their parents, with their dad Scott Mitchell (Andy Buckley) driving.

During the Christmas holidays, the two boys were scheduled to visit their busy aunt (Karen's sister) for one week. After their 757 jet touched down at the Juan Santamaria Airport in Costa Rica, the brothers boarded a ferry to the island of Isla Nublar - "the home of Jurassic World." During the ride, dinosaur-enthusiast Gray spoke: "When they first opened, they had eight species. Now they have 14 herbivores and 6 carnivores. That's like 50 tons of food a week." On the ferry dock, they were met by their aunt's bored and distracted British personal assistant Zara Young (Katie McGrath). They took a monorail into the main gate of Jurassic World - "built from the gate of the original park, over twenty years ago." Zara escorted them into their luxury hotel room, where she told them that Claire had arranged for VIP access and pre-paid meals. Jurassic World was viewed from above - it was a sprawling theme park, John Hammond's ultimate dream - with a Mosasaur Lagoon, central Innovation Center at the apex of Main Street, and a Helipad.

The boy's red-headed workaholic aunt, Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) was Jurassic World's officious, uptight Operations Manager. As the well-dressed, business-suited executive led a tour group (of three potential investors) into the on-site genetic engineering Hammond Creation Lab, she described the park's advancements and need for further contributions for future attractions:

While year-over-year, revenue continues to climb, operating costs are higher than ever. Our shareholders have been patient, but let's be honest, no one's impressed by a dinosaur anymore. Twenty years ago, de-extinction was right up there with magic. These days, kids look at a Stegosaurus like an elephant from the city zoo. That doesn't mean asset development is falling behind. Our DNA excavators discover new species every year. But consumers want them bigger. Louder. More teeth. The good news? Our advances in gene splicing have opened up a whole new frontier. We've learned more from genetics in the past decade than a century of digging up bones.

In front of a computer screen displaying DNA double helixes, she highlighted the park's newest attraction - its first genetically-modified hybrid dinosaur known as Indominus Rex. She was assisted in her explanation by the park's scientist-geneticist Dr. Henry Wu (BD Wong), who explained how the dinosaur was "designed" and would be "fifty feet long when fully grown. BIGGER than the T-Rex." Claire convincingly added:

Every time we've unveiled a new asset, attendance has spiked. Global news coverage. Celebrity visitors. Eyes of the world.

Inside the Innovation Center ("Where technology meets prehistory"), the two boys (mostly Gray) were entranced by the holographic life-sized projection of an Apatosaurus (and later a Parasaurolophus), various paleontologist do-it-yourself exhibits (Digging For Dinosaurs), and a 3-screen set of monitors showing a documentary about the extinction of the dinosaurs. Gray rushed over to the DNA genetics quiz exhibit (about cytosine, guanine, adenine and thymine), with a 3-D representation of Mr. DNA in a cameo (voice of director Colin Trevorrow). Claire briefly met her two nephews, and told them that Zara would remain with them until 6 pm dinner, and she would be free by 8 pm. Claire promised that the next day, she would take them "into the control room, show you behind the scenes and all of that."

In Jurassic World's main Control Room, a wall of monitors displayed a map of the various areas of the island, as workers manned consoles and workstations, and reported on how the animals were controlled by invisible fences, implants, drugs and tranquilizers (or relocation) if they became unruly. Claire received a report about the park's attendance and various park incidents (lost and found, and heatstroke), from Vivian Krill (Lauren Lapkus) and head technician Lowery Cruthers (Jake Johnson). Claire chided Lowery that his 'Jurassic Park' T-shirt was in poor taste. He was contrite but blunt: "I understand people died. It was terrible, but that first park was legit! You know, I have a lot of respect for it. They didn't need these genetic hybrids. They just needed dinosaurs, real dinosaurs!" Claire then gloated about her successful deal with the investors: "Verizon Wireless Presents the Indominus Rex." Lowery was distraught:

Why not just go the distance, Claire? Let these corporations name the dinosaurs. They've got all the ballparks. Why stop there?...Pepsi-saurus. Tostito-don.

An inbound, blue Jurassic 1 Eurocopter Colibri was announced as it landed on the park's Heli-pad. Claire boarded the helicopter, piloted by Jurassic World's New Age owner Simon Masrani (Irrfan Khan) (with the assistance of a flight instructor (Patrick Crowley)) - Masrani was only two days away from getting his pilot's license. He asked: "Are the guests having fun? Are the animals enjoying life?" Claire answered: "Guest satisfaction is steady. In the low 90s. We don't have a way to measure the animals' emotional experience." As Claire tensed up, they unsteadily flew off to view his "new dinosaur" - the park's newest attraction - Indominus Rex, in Paddock 11. Although Claire kept emphasizing the park's attendance figures, revenues, profits, marketing and the offsetting of costs, Masrani countered:

Ah, enough about cost! John Hammond entrusted me with his dying wish, and not once did he mention profits....Don't forget why we built this place, Claire. Jurassic World exists to remind us how very small we are. How new. You can't put a price on that.

At the fortress-like paddock where further construction was occurring on the 40-foot high walls, Claire and Masrani walked into the Paddock's Observation Room - with touch-screen consoles. She explained the reason for delays in opening - the Asset Containment division had recommended that the walls be built higher to provide greater safety and security for the dinosaur handlers. It was noted that the spirited hybrid dinosaur was seemingly intelligent, had already severely injured one worker's arm, and had tried to break out through the enclosure's glass. When the growling creature emerged from the jungle environment, Masrani was shocked it was white ("you never told me it was white"), but was impressed by how awesome and scary it was: "The kids? This will give the parents nightmares!" Claire explained how the animal could sense their presence through "thermal radiation, like snakes." There was a second I-Rex sibling, but the Indominus Rex had cannibalized it. Masrani then recommended that Claire allow ex-Navy veteran Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), Jurassic World's raptor expert and trainer, inspect the paddock for structural vulnerabilities.

In the next scene at the behavioral science facility, Owen was seen working with and training the park's four Velociraptors: Blue, Charlie, Delta, and Echo. The creatures were responding to various commands and his hand-clicker in the cliffside Raptor Research Arena. After the creatures were dismissed, iNGen's Security Operations head, Vic Hoskins (Vincent D'Onofrio) congratulated Owen for his mastery of the seemingly-untamable animals, and the potential for their use as weapons for military applications:

I've just seen they can respond to commands...I just saw a bond. A real bond. Between man and beast...We're dogs of war. We know that the military needs to reduce casualties. Some people think that robots are the future. Look, nature gave us the most effective killing machines 75 million years ago. And now we know they can take orders....They've got millions of years of instinct in their cells, instinct that we can program. Their loyalty cannot be bought. These guys are gonna run straight into the enemy's teeth and eat them, belt buckle and all.

Owen was immediately dismissive and disapproving, and strongly warned against Hoskins' objective: "These are wild animals, Hoskins. Trust me, you don't want them in the field." Owen's assistant trainer Barry (Omar Sy) added: "What if they decide they wanna be in control?" The determined Hoskins wouldn't back down:

These animals can replace thousands of boots on the ground. How many lives would that save? War is part of nature. Look around, Owen. Every living thing in this jungle is trying to murder the other. Mother Nature's way of testing her creations. Refining the pecking order. War is a struggle. Struggle breeds greatness. And without that, we end up with places like this, charge seven bucks a soda....This is gonna happen, with or without you boys. Progress always wins, man.

Suddenly, Leon (Colby Boothman), one of the younger, recently-hired workers (who had replaced the injured worker), fell into the Raptor Arena - attracting the ravenous attention of the four raptors. Owen and Barry intervened and ordered that two armed rangers not fire on the creatures. While Leon was safely rescued, it was clear that the animals had not been entirely tamed by Owen.

In the Gentle Giants Petting Zoo area of the park, children rode on the backs of baby Triceratops, and others petted baby creatures. In another area was the Spinning Dinosaur Eggs ride. Zach and Grey, who were being escorted by an inattentive Zara, decided to evade her and ran off to explore the park. On Main Street, they heard an announcer: "The next T-Rex feeding will begin in 10 minutes," and decided to attend. In the Tyrannosaurus Rex Kingdom area, while the show was in progress (the T-Rex approached a goat in the enclosure), Zach was distracted when his mother Karen called and expressed concern that the boys were on their own. Karen also phoned Claire and expressed her displeasure and resentfulness that Claire wasn't spending quality time with the boys: "This was supposed to be a family weekend, Claire." Claire promised to spend the entire next day with them.

Claire drove up in her Mercedes to Owen's trailer-bungalow next to a large body of water. She spoke to him about how the Indominus Rex exhibit featuring the new hybrid dinosaur species was due to open in only three weeks. Claire brought news of Masrani's request: "We'd like you to evaluate the paddock for vulnerabilities" - because he had already shown control and mastery of the raptors. It was clear from their conversation that the two had experienced a failed dating relationship together, when he responded: "It's all about control with you. I don't control the raptors. It's a relationship. It's based on mutual respect. That's why you and I never had a second date." Then, Owen warned:

It's probably easier to pretend these animals are just numbers on a spreadsheet. But they're not. They're alive...You might have made them in a test tube, but they don't know that. They're thinking: I gotta eat. I gotta hunt. I gotta...(hand gestures of sexual humping).

Meanwhile, Zach and Gray attended the Mosasaurus Feeding Show in an Arena viewed by hundreds, where a Great White Shark was suspended and dangling from a hook above a lagoon. Suddenly, the fierce marine reptile behemoth burst out of the water, snapped its predatory jaws onto the shark carcass, and dragged it under the water - whilst soaking the audience with its tremendous splash. The bleachers dropped down to view the whale-sized creature from an underwater observatory vantage-point, as it continued to feed.

Claire drove Owen to the Indominus Rex paddock, as she rattled on about the benefits of the newest, 'bigger and better' park attraction, derived from focus-group feedback:

We've been pre-booking tickets for months. The park needs a new attraction every few years in order to reinvigorate the public's interest. Kind of like the space program. Corporate felt genetic modification would up the 'wow' factor.

Unamused, Owen replied: "They're dinosaurs. 'Wow' enough." Inside the Observation Room of the paddock, she continued: "The base genome is a T-Rex. The rest is classified." Owen was upset and concerned that the creature had been entirely raised in captivity, and that it had been raised in isolation without socialization: "Animals raised in isolation aren't always the most functional."

But then, the console monitor reported: "NO THERMAL SIGNATURES DETECTED" - the female dinosaur had inexplicably disappeared. Owen identified fresh and deep claw marks on the wall - possibly indicating that the Indominus Rex had escaped over the enclosure's wall. Claire rushed to drive back to the park's Main Control Room, noting: "She has an implant in her back! I can track it from the control room! We have an asset out of containment! Put ACU [Asset Containment Unit] on alert! This is not a drill!" She phoned Lowery in the Control Room and requested the coordinates of the Indominus.

Back at the Paddock, Owen and Nick (Eric Edelstein) - the heavy-set blue-helmeted Supervisor, entered the enclosure to inspect the wall's claw marks with Ellis (Eddie J. Hernandez), another Paddock handler. Nick asked the others: "That wall's 40 feet high. Do you really think she could have climbed out?" In the Control Room, Lowery expressed confusion to Claire: "What the hell? It's in the cage!...Claire, I'm telling you, she's in the cage!" Vivian frantically sent a garbled radio message to the Paddock, with urgency in her voice: "Paddock 11, this is Control! You need to evacuate the containment area...It's in the cage! It's in there with you!" After Nick opened the gate and safely fled, the rampaging creature pursued after Owen and Ellis. Ellis was snatched up in the Indominus' clawed fist and devoured with a loud crunching noise, as Owen barely made it through the gate, and slid under a large crane to hide from the predatory dinosaur that had now broken through the paddock's gate behind him.

Crouching behind a small pickup truck, the cowering and whimpering Nick became the next victim when Indominus tossed the truck aside and he was left unprotected and exposed. To hide and mask his own scent, Owen cut the crane's fuel line to spray and douse himself with gasoline. Although the dinosaur approached the crane and sniffed around with its gigantic bloody jaws, Owen was undetected. To his relief, it then retreated into the jungle with huge thumping footsteps - it was about 4 miles from "the nearest attraction." In the Control Room, Claire assured everyone: "Everyone remain calm."

An Operations Status monitor flashed a "Containment Alert" about the Indominus on the move within the park. Claire told Lowery: "The implant will shock it if it gets too close to a perimeter fence." Masrani ordered that no alerts be sent out, in order to protect his expensive new asset-attraction, and to not cause alarm:

Let Asset Containment capture it quietly. The very existence of this park is predicated on our ability to handle incidents like this.

At ACU headquarters, troopers had been ordered to conduct a "non-lethal" operation. Back at the Raptor Research Arena, Owen's raptor trainer Barry was tending to the animals while speaking to Hoskins. Barry identified one of the raptors as Delta, a female. Barry received a Code 19 notification - meaning "an asset out of containment," and an alert that two men had been killed by Indominus. Strangely hopeful about the "new asset," Hoskins phoned an unidentified individual: "We might have an opportunity here."

A herd of Gallimimus ran together through a verdant valley while a Tour Jeep filled with tourists drove beside them. In the distance, passengers on the park's monorail included Zach and Gray, who appeared depressed about his parent's impending divorce ("They get mail from two different lawyers...They're divorce lawyers"). Zach attempted to calm his younger, more sensitive brother by telling him it didn't much matter. Meanwhile, armed troopers in the ACU converged with their vehicles on the Indominus Rex's beacon signal while roaming in the jungle. Owen barged into the main Control Room and confronted Claire, with the fact that the Indominus had escaped utilizing her great intelligence:

What the hell happened out there? There are thermal cameras all over that paddock. She did not just disappear!...She marked up that wall as distraction. She wanted us to think she escaped!

Owen complained that Masrani had sent a specialized trooper unit to not kill but to only capture the dinosaur with non-lethal stun weapons (Masrani: "We have $26 million dollars invested in that asset. We can't just kill it"). Owen predicted: "Those men are gonna die" - and he shouted: "You need to call this mission off right now!" - but he was ignored. The troopers approached on foot toward the tracking beacon, while ACU Commander Katashi Hamada (Brian Tee) found the device on the ground! Owen realized that the intelligent creature had clawed out her tracking implant: "That's her tracking implant. She clawed it out." Blood began dripping onto Hamada's arm as the hybrid dinosaur emerged from the jungle - completely and adaptively camouflaged in the green foliage. Hamada was grabbed, tossed down into water, and stomped to death. Most of the rest of Hamada's squad were either killed, severely injured or devoured - conveyed by their greenish, first-person helmet-cam video feeds and flat-lining EKG displays seen in the Control Room. Troopers Cooper and Craig were tossed into trees, presumably killing them, while Lee, Spears and Meyers were eaten alive.

As everyone in the Control Room witnessed the bloody attack and horror, Owen advocated the park's complete closure and evacuation of the island, as Claire worried: "We'd never reopen." Owen advised Masrani: "Asset Containment can use live ammunition in an emergency situation. You have an M134 in your armory. Put it on a chopper and smoke this thing!" but Claire obstinately insisted: "We have families here. I'm not gonna turn this place into some kind of a war zone." Owen quipped: "You already have." In an aside as he exited, an exasperated Owen told Masrani: "That thing out there, that's no dinosaur." Noting that there were over 21 thousand park visitors that day, Claire ordered Phase One: "I'm going to close everything north of the resort." Meanwhile, Gray and Zach had just boarded the Gyrosphere ride that traveled further into the valley - they were the last ones allowed to take the ride before park visitors were ordered to retreat to the monorail and exit.

In the lab, Dr. Wu and Masrani spoke about his genetically-engineered asset - the Indominus (Wu: "You know that I'm not at liberty to reveal the asset's genetic makeup. Modified animals are known to be unpredictable"). Wu admitted that he had been authorized by Masrani to create Indominus with "exaggerated predator features" by adding various components (cuttlefish and tree frog DNA). Unfortunately, those elements caused undesired "behavioral traits" and contributed to the creature's ability to camouflage and its ability to adaptability hide from thermal imaging. Masrani ordered the seizure of Wu's work, and the shut-down of the park. Wu then proclaimed:

Wu: All of this exists because of me. If I don't innovate, somebody else will.
Masrani: You are to cease all activities here immediately.
Wu: You are acting like we are engaged in some kind of mad science. But we are doing what we have done from the beginning. Nothing in Jurassic World is natural. We have always filled gaps in the genome with the DNA of other animals. And, if their genetic code was pure, many of them would look quite different. But you didn't ask for reality. You asked for more teeth.
Masrani: I never asked for a monster!
Wu: 'Monster' is a relative term. To a canary, a cat is a monster. We're just used to being the cat.

While on the self-driving and free-roaming Gyrosphere ride, with comedic instructional video narration provided by Jimmy Fallon (Himself), the two boys viewed various dinosaur species (Apatosaurus, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, etc.) freely grazing in the green valley. An announcement alerted them that the exhibits were closed and that they must disembark and return to the resort. Zach urged that they remain longer as VIPs, because of their special wristbands. Claire learned from Zara that the boys had run off and were not in her custody, and she ordered that their Gyrosphere, the last one in the field, had to be the immediate priority of a search and rescue mission by park rangers.

Zach and Gray came upon the outer perimeter's gate # 5 that was open and damaged. Zach encouraged them to leave the gated, enclosed valley area and venture "off-road" - further into a restricted area to acquire "the full Jurassic World experience." Claire located Owen and begged him to assist her in locating her nephews. The boys viewed several armor-coated herbivores known as Ankylosaurus - as a fifth camouflaged dinosaur stealthily loomed behind them and growled. The four Ankylosaurus' fled as the Gyrosphere was kicked toward them and the Indominus-Rex attacked and grabbed one of them. The Gyrosphere was damaged and became inoperable when struck by the strong tail of one Ankylosaurus and propelled into a tree. During battle, the Indominus upended its single dino opponent, flipped it onto its back, and snapped its neck within its huge jaws. The Rex then cracked the outer coating of the gyrosphere with one of its claws, and attempted to grip and pick it up and crush it in its massive mouth to reach the boys inside. The two assailed boys opened their destroyed bubble's door and fled for their lives - and barely escaped by jumping down into a waterfall.

During their search for the boys, Claire and Owen drove in an official vehicle to the valley area of the Gyrosphere attraction, where Owen came upon a lethally-wounded Apatosaurus that soon died as he gently stroked its head. Owen noticed five other Apatosaurus carcasses nearby and noted to Claire: "It didn't eat them. It's killing for sport." The Indominus was establishing himself as the apex predator.

Meanwhile, Barry viewed a beach-side operation being conducted by InGen's Hoskins who predicted he would soon be green-lighted and take command of the park's chaos. Owen and Claire drove further into the restricted area and discovered the destroyed Gyrosphere, and surmised that the boys "made it out" (muddy footprints revealed their flight) and bravely "jumped" at the waterfall to save themselves. Owen insisted to Claire that he was "in charge" and that she must follow his orders.

In the jungle, Claire's two nephews located the dilapidated remnants of the old Jurassic Park - a damaged hard hat, and steps leading into the original Jurassic Park Visitor Center, now overgrown with vines and plants. Inside, they found a discarded banner reading "When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth" that fell after the T-Rex's final attack in the 1993 film, and remains of an old 1992 Jeep Wrangler Sahara (Sand Beige).

In the Control Room with Masrani, Lowery described the Indominus' path toward the main area of the park, sensing via thermal radiation where everyone had been amassed to evacuate: "Every time this thing kills, it moves further south. It's headed right for the park." Vivian warned: "Our emergency measures just put all the warm bodies in one place." Hoskins approached Masrani and proposed using the trained Raptors to track and hunt the Indominus ("They can hunt and kill that creature...They follow orders. You see, the solution to your crisis is standin' right in front of you") - but Masrani rejected his crazed plan: "Let me be as clear as I can. No Velociraptors are going to be set loose on this island." Hoskins pressed: "You got 20,000 people here. What are you going to do? They have no place to go. That thing is a killing machine! And it will not stop." Masrani claimed he would only consider the viability of Hoskins' outrageous idea.

Without the availability of his flight instructor, Masrani single-handedly piloted his helicopter - outfitted with two ACU troopers and a GE M134 Mini-Gun, to prepare to attack the Indominus-Rex. After repairing the Jeep, the two boys began driving back to the park's headquarters. As they zoomed off, Claire and Owen were nearby, and realized the boys had successfully started one of the jeeps and were coming back: "How did they even get one of these things started?" As they examined a second Jurassic Park jeep, the Indominus stomped into view, sniffed their presence, and attacked by barging through the Visitor's Center to chase after them. As Claire and Owen raced away, she phoned the Control Room about the dinosaur's location - near the domed Aviary: "We found her. South of the Gyrosphere Valley, between the old park and the Aviary."

The information was relayed to Masrani in his chopper, and his two accompanying troopers began to open fire on the beast near the "birdcage." The rogue Indominus Rex broke through the glass-dome of the Aviary to escape from the gunfire - the breach allowed a number of aviary creatures to escape containment, including a flying flock of reptiles known as Pterosaurs (a number of Pteranodons and Dimorphodons). Several Pteranodons escaped, flew up toward Masrani's chopper, and caused one of the troopers to lose his balance and fall to his death. The second ACU trooper was impaled to death by one Pteranodon's long, sharp jagged beak that broke through the helicopter's front windshield - the helicopter then spun out-of-control and crashed into the Aviary, killing Masrani and allowing even more creatures to escape. The screeching swarm of Pteranodons approached Claire and Owen (who fled into a protective forest of trees), and then the creatures proceeded to follow Zach and Gray's Jeep as it approached the gate of the park's western security wall, and then onward to Main Street.

At the Aviary, Claire and Owen jumped on an ATV and returned to the main resort area, as the PA system announced to awaiting visitor-evacuees assembled on Main Street: "All guests must take shelter immediately." The long-winged flying creatures swooped down and caused havoc and chaos, as thousands of guests clamored for safety. [Note: The film paid homage to Hitchcock's The Birds (1963).] Even the animals in the Petting Zoo area were snatched. Zara located the two boys among the frenzied guests, and as she cried out: "Don't just stand there!", she was grabbed by a Pteranodon that carried her to the Lagoon and dropped her into the water, while other Pteranodons competed in attacking her (both above and below the water). Ultimately, the massive Mosasaurus wrapped its jaws around both a flying reptile and Zara in its grasp, and swallowed them whole. Eventually, Owen and other armed ACU personnel contained the Pterosaurs problem by shooting them with liquid tranquilizers. Claire saved Owen from harm when he was attacked by a Dimorphodon and she shot the creature with his gun. He gave her an impromptu kiss as thanks, while Zach and Gray watched in amazement and then were reunited with their aunt.

After the tragic death of Masrani, Hoskins marched into the Control Room of Jurassic World and announced his new mission: "The new mission is to prevent further loss of life." He fired the current staff and asserted that a new team - an iNGen security force - was now on duty. Lowery phoned Claire about the take-over:

The board assigned emergency ops to iNGen's private security division....And he has this insane plan to use the Raptors to hunt the Indominus.

Owen learned of the plan to use his Raptors and raced to the Raptor Research area in an official park vehicle. Upon hearing Vic greet him: "The mother hen has finally arrived," Owen punched him in the face and threatened: "Get the hell out of here and stay away from my animals." Claire backed up Owen: "Hoskins, you wanted this to happen, you son of a bitch!" Hoskins claimed he had taken command to save lives, to employ cruise ships to evacuate everyone the next morning, and use the Raptors to "save lives." Barry was reluctant: "They've never been out of containment. It's crazy." Owen was forced to reluctantly agree to help.

To employ Hoskins' plan, Owen instructed iNGen's security officers about a "hide-and-seek" maneuver - to release the Raptor pack hunters to seek their target - via scent, within sector 5. Once the Raptors had herded the Indominus into a "kill zone," then the officers could open fire - on Owen's command. He also cautioned: "Do not shoot my Raptors." The four Raptors were Charlie, Delta, Echo, and Blue - "the beta," and Owen was their "alpha" leader. In the Paddock, Owen used the scent from the flesh around the clawed-out implant to specifically target the hybrid Indominus. With Owen on a motorbike, Barry on an ATV, and a truck full of armed iNGen officers following behind, the Raptors were released and pursued into the jungle. Claire was monitoring the plan in a parked Mobile Veterinary Unit truck-van with the two boys in the back, as was Vic who watched from the Control Room: "Imagine if we had these puppies in Tora Bora." [Note: This was a reference to a 2001 battle during the War in Afghanistan.] Unexpectedly, after the Raptors located Indominus' whereabouts, it appeared to Barry and Owen that the four creatures were communicating with their target. Owen realized why - the Indominus had been secretly made with Velociraptor genetic material: "That thing's part Raptor."

The group of soldiers fired on Indominus as Owen called out: "Raptors got a new alpha." As the iNGen officers cautiously approached, one-by-one, they were attacked by the pack of Raptors, and several were eaten alive. As Owen confronted Charlie, one of the Raptors, it recognized him and didn't attack, but was hit and killed by a rocket launched by one of the soldiers. The remaining iNGen soldiers fled to their vehicle and to Barry's ATV and raced off. Left behind, Barry was forced to hide in a hollow log. He was saved from Blue's attack when Owen distracted the Raptor by riding off on his revved-up motorcycle.

A bloody hand reached up - a jump scare - it was one of the injured iNGen soldiers warning Claire in the truck that the Raptors were on the attack. The soldier was grabbed and devoured as he opened the truck's rear doors. The boys watched in horror as the soldier was killed while their truck pulled away. Another Raptor smashed through Claire's driver-side window, but she avoided injury. Two Raptors pursued the truck as it sped away with its rear doors flapping open. One was smashed into a tree, while Gray was able to poke an electrical prod at the second predator. Owen caught up to the truck, and everyone drove back to the Control Center. The three surviving Raptors heard the call of Indominus, their new "alpha," and followed after her.

A hurried evacuation by helicopter was occurring within Dr. Wu's Genetics Lab, when he received a phone call from Hoskins, alerting him: "Change of plans. Mission took a jog to the left. I'm taking everything off-site." Hoskins insisted that the embryos needed to be evacuated, rather than left behind in incubators. He also promised Wu: "Our little side project's about to get a shot in the arm" - he was referring to his plan to weaponize the Indominus for use in war.

An extraction point for park visitors had been set up, to evacuate fired park workers and others via ferry. Lowery insisted on staying behind in the Control Room, rather than leaving with Vivian. In a departing iNGen helicopter, Dr. Wu learned that Hoskins had ordered the geneticist and "the assets to a secure location." Owen, Claire, and the two boys arrived back at the Innovation Center where they raced into the Hammond Creation Lab. Claire was astonished to see that the lab was still being evacuated, as Hoskins and his workers were still packing embryos into refrigerated crates. On a monitor screen was a diagram of his manipulative plans with the Masrani Corporation for a new hybrid Indominus dinosaur (of a smaller size) developed by Hoskins' secret partner, Dr. Wu - it was named the TRX (or REX.345-ALPHA). It would be used as a weapon in war instead of as the next theme park attraction. Hoskins bragged:

Somebody's gotta make sure that this company has a future. Imagine, that one, a fraction of the size, deadly, intelligent, able to hide from the most advanced military technology. A living weapon unlike anything we've ever seen. You see... Millions of years of evolution, what did we learn? Nature is the gift that just...

He was interrupted by the entrance of Delta - one of the Raptors. As Hoskins backed away and found himself cornered, he begged: "We're on the same side, right?" But Delta proceeded to attack, crunched his forearm, and then mauled him - as blood sprayed. Claire, Owen, and the two boys fled from the Lab and the Innovation Center, but found themselves cornered and surrounded outside by all three of the remaining Raptors. As the original "alpha," Owen calmly reestablished his rapport with Blue, the "beta," but then Indominus Rex arrived. The Raptors, led by Blue, attempted to kill Indominus, aided by Owen who also began firing at the creature. Meanwhile, Claire and the boys hid in a nearby gift shop. One by one, the Raptors were eliminated. Gray suggested that the only solution to defeat the powerful hybrid was more "teeth" - a code word. Claire grabbed a flare, hurriedly phoned Lowery, and urged him to open Paddock 9 - the enclosed dwelling of the Tyrannosaurus-Rex (or "Rexy"), the park's veteran beast. She used her flare to guide and lure the released Rexy into a colossal battle with Indominus.

Rexy was a formidable opponent for Indominus, but was soon overpowered and knocked to the ground. As Indominus-Rex went in for the kill, Blue revived and came racing to the rescue. Blue distracted Indominus by biting its neck, thereby saving Rexy from death. The smaller Blue and Rexy ganged up on Indominus, and cornered it near the Mosasaurus Lagoon. There, the gigantic marine reptile from the lagoon emerged, grabbed Indominus' neck in its enormous jaws, and dragged it underwater to consume it. For a moment, the T-Rex and Blue respectfully communicated with each other before heading out into the night from the devastated area of Main Street and the Innovation Center.

Sometime soon after, doctors attended to wounded park visitor evacuees in the interior of a large ferry building. Scott and Karen Mitchell, the boys' parents, were happily reunited with Zach and Gray - soon to be evacuated from Costa Rica. Claire seemed to be reconciled with her sister, before she departed with Owen (Claire: "So what do we do now?" Owen: "Probably stick together, for survival").

In the film's brief epilogue, the camera soared over the jungle within the abandoned Isla Nublar complex as it approached the Helipad, where the T-Rex emerged. It observed the surroundings, then growled and emitted a loud, majestic, bellowing and domineering roar.

Film Notables (Awards, Facts, etc.)

Chronologically, this film was set 22 years after the events of the previous Jurassic Park (1993) film and trilogy. In this first film in the sequel trilogy, a new park named Jurassic World (with genetically-cloned creatures) had been built on the site of the original park on Isla Nublar (a fictional Central American island), and had been in operation for ten years. The park was managed by the Masrani Corporation headed by CEO Simon Masrani (Irrfan Khan), with nefarious dealings between iNGen's Security Division head Vic Hoskins (Vincent D'Onofrio) and the park's scientist-geneticist Dr. Henry Wu (BD Wong).

No Academy Awards nominations.

Tagline: The park is open.

With a production budget of $150 million, and box-office gross receipts of $652.3 million (domestic) and $1.67 billion (worldwide). It was the second-highest grossing (domestic revenue) of all 2015 films (behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)), and the top film in the Jurassic Park film franchise. It continues to remain the highest-grossing (domestic) summer blockbuster release of all-time.

Grossing $208.8 million at the box-office (domestic) during its opening weekend, Jurassic World became the highest opening of all time, although it has been surpassed since then.

The computer-generated creatures (including those in the park's Gentle Giants Petting Zoo) were created with motion capture (utilizing humans). This was the first time that motion capture technology was used in the making of a dinosaur film.

Rated PG-13, with some gruesome Deaths: Approximately 17 humans (Handler Ellis, Supervisor Nick, Commander Hamada, 5 ACU Troopers: Cooper, Craig, Lee, Spears and Meyers; 2 ACU Troopers in Helicopter, Masrani, Zara Young, Several InGen soldiers (3 or 4), and Hoskins). Also, many other creatures were killed: (Indominus' sibling, 1 Ankylosaurus, 6 Apatosaurus, a Pteranodon, 3 Velociraptors: Charlie, Echo and Delta), and Indominus Rex itself (eaten alive by the Mosasaurus).
